In 1909 Ettore Bugatti founded Automobiles Ettore Bugatti in Molsheim. Bugatti cars soon became very succesful in racing events with the Type 35 winning over 1000 races in its time. Besides the racing cars the company built famous sports cars and limousines. After the second world war only a handful of cars has been built and the company closed in 1963. The marque was revived in 1987 in Campogalliano producing sports cars, which was liquidated in 1995. In 1998 Volkswagen acquired the Bugatti brand and startet the production of the Veyron sports car in 2005.
